Antec TruePower 550watt PSU PDF Print E-mail

Excuse the cable mess, but no matter how hard I've tried they just wouldn't stay straight. All the cables are pretty long, about 60-70cm, plenty enough for any case. Here are the 4pin Molex connectors and FDD power connectors:

You can count them if you'd like ;-) The power connectors (ATC 20pin and +12V 4pin for P4):

Since the main power connector has many cables (20 in total), Antec dressed it in a net so that they don't get tangled inside the case and create cable clutter. That's very neat; it would have been nice though if all the connectors would have been separated by a similar wrapping. The special connectors I was talking about are the "Fan Only" 4pin Molex type and 3pin fan header type for monitoring the RPM of the PSU fan:

The "Fan Only" connectors, although using a 4pin Molex type header, only have two cables attached, yellow, which is +12V, and black, ground or 0V. Be very careful with these connectors because they are missing the +5V cable and the second ground cable, plus, the voltage on the +12V line of these connectors is variable, so if you plug them into a HDD or optical drive, they're toast (the drive I mean).

Like the name says, these connectors are for fans only, and are part of Antec's Low Noise Technology. They provide variable voltage on the +12V line of these connectors thus turning normal case fans into thermally controlled fans and reducing noise. Be extra careful which fans you plug into these connectors because they are actually controlled by the temperature inside the PSU, not the temperature inside the case. The temperate in the PSU is generally higher than the case temperature.

You can also monitor the speed of the PSU fans by plugging the dedicated 3pin connector into a fan header on the motherboard or on a frontal panel monitoring device such as the Thermaltake Hardcano. Next thing I do is open up the PSU and see its guts, so to speak. That's not a very hard job to do, just remove the four screws holding the top cover and that's it. Carefully, because the power cover is still held by the power cord for the belly fan, which is carefully removed:

You probably can't determine the dimensions from the picture, so let me just tell you that this fan measures 92x92x25mm. I really like these clear fans, they look extra cool, especially if they have a clear border (the Antec fan has a black opaque border as you can see), but this fan will rarely been seen. Unless you will modify it to be a LED fan, and then it'll go just fine with a case window (Antec PlusView 1000AMG sounds really great right now, and a TrueBlue 480W PSU to go with it).
