Thanks to Logisys Computer for the product sample.
Over the past few months we've had the opportunity to review numerous products coming out of Logisys, a company that's quickly making a name for themselves as a consistent provider of quality, inexpensive computer accessories. Recently they've expanded their line to include power supplies, a product more and more manufacturers are beginning to pick up.
Their meshed series is a very unique concept: wrap almost the entire PSU is steel mesh, the circular kind. As we'll later see, this allows for potentially added ventilation and a very different look. You can choose from red, green, or blue. The unit comes in the retail box shown above. It's a very basic kit so you only get the power supply and AC adapter.
As the name suggests, the top and sides are one large piece of mesh. There are two 80mm blue LED fans present (one intake, one exhaust) which, when lit up, give the unit a nice glow. There's also a secondary AC plug in the back; you can use this to connect your monitor. Keep in mind that it won't be powered by the PSU - it'll simply act as a relay. The idea of this is that whenever you shut down your PC your monitor will turn off as well. There's no voltage selector here (the PFC takes care of that). Unfortunately there's also no power switch, meaning you'll have to pull the plug if your PC freezes and the reset button doesn't work.
The front uses a honeycomb design for even more ventilation. With this model there's no set airflow pattern. The intake fan blows air onto the internal heatsinks while the exhaust fan removes air from the PSU, but this is a combination of the air pushed by the intake fan and that which is drawn through the front mesh. The top panel can be removed via 4 screws. There's no "void warranty if removed" sticker, but a circular one does rest on one of the screws. Draw your own conclusions.
The sticker on the underside states 28A on the 3.3V line, 38A on the 5V line, and 17A on the 12V line. While the first two are sufficient, 17A on the 12V rail isn't enough, considering other quality 300-400W models can provide as much as 30A. Even more interesting are the combined ratings. You'll notice there's a 200W power limit on the 3.3V + 5V rails. Furthermore, there's a 350W total power rating for all three rails, with the "max output" capped at 500W. In other words, you're not getting a 500W model. You're getting a 350W model that's theoretically capable of a 500W maximum output. The caveat here is that because the total power is written to be 350W, you can't expect to get sustained, stable power delivery beyond that. Fortunately for most people, even 300 watts is more than enough.
