Xtrac Hybrid Mouse Pad PDF Print E-mail

Thanks to XtracPads for the product sample.

About four months back we looked at every mouse pad made my XtracPads. Since then, only one other addition has been made to the family: the Xtrac Hybrid. This is their first mat to ship in a retail kit and as the name implies, is a bit of a revolution. Although specifics aren't disclosed, the underlying concept is a combination of a slick plastic top and a more comfortable cloth surface. The result is quite something.

The mouse pad comes rolled up in the retail box shown above. Aside from the mat you also get a sheet with storage instructions, a sticker, and a set of 12 Mad Dotz mouse enhancers. It's nice to see XtracPads put together a complete kit; you provide the mouse.

Size wise, the Hybrid is pretty large. Measuring in at 10" x 16" x 3/16" (254mm x 406mm x 4.77mm), it's only slightly smaller than the 11" x 17" Xtrac Ripper. It also happens to be the thickest of their pads by at least 1mm (closer to 2mm compared to the thick cloth pads). As you can see it's a lot wider than it is long; this is ideal since most games and applications require more side-to-side than up-down movements. On the flipside, you'll need adequate desktop space to fully accommodate such a pad. Whereas XtracPads' thin plastic mats could be tucked under a keyboard for storage, the Hybrid's width prevents this from working effectively.

Briefly, Mad Dotz are Teflon adhesive circles. You get a total of 12 oversized stickers which is enough to cover the feet of several mice. An alcohol prep pad is also provided for cleaning off feet prior to installation. Unless your mouse already has treated feet (several Logitech models do), this is a great addition. Even then, Mad Dotz do add that extra bit of slickness which factory feet sometimes fail to do. Their large footprint also means you can cut off any extra portions.
