Thanks to Sidewinder Computers for the product sample.
Very similar to the 5.25” drive bay fan controller recently reviewed, the A3FATR2 fits in a standard 3.5” floppy bay and is available in black, beige and silver versions. The primary functions of the A3FATR2 are to monitor both the speed of two case fans and temperatures using the two attached thermal probes. While not having the same feature set of the larger 5.25” drive bay controller, the A3FATR2 does attempt to provide a reasonable number of features for machines without an extra 5.25” bay available (such as many of the SFF computers currently on the market) or for the consumer unwilling to part with an 5.25” bay for a fan controller.

Here you can see the packaging of the UC-A3FATR2, hereafter called simply the A3. The color choice for the packaging is a little odd, but the hot pink definitely does capture the attention of someone who would happen to be browsing past this in a retail store. The packaging itself is not the standard heat sealed plastic packaging, as it is only sealed in two locations at the top of the package. This makes it much easier (and safer) to open, as the others have been sealed to be 100% airtight.

Included in the package are the A3 itself, the instruction manual, stickers for labeling monitor leads, two pieces of what appears to be thermal tape, and the jumper for changing the scale readout of the display from Centigrade to Fahrenheit. While the fan leads in the 5.25” panel were labeled, the leads of the A3 were not. This is odd, considering that the leads of the two thermal probes were labeled, leading me to believe that the omission was merely a factory mistake.

A top down view of the A3 shows the 3-pin fan connectors attaching to the PCB on the left as well as the power and temperature connections on the right of the LCD. The depth of the unit is approximately half the depth of a standard 3.5” floppy drive. The A3 is made of aluminum and all edges were smooth, making cutting yourself on an exposed piece of metal a difficult proposition.
