Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 Case PDF Print E-mail

Once everything is connected, it's time to organize. As you can see, the adhesive cable clamps play a crucial role in combining all the wires and restoring order to the chaos known as cable clutter.

Although base installation is trouble free and extremely fast, you'll find yourself spending a significant amount of time planning and organizing the cables. You want them out of the way as much as possible. I spent a good half hour getting it to look like what you see above. This is extremely important for optimal airflow and cooling. It doesn't hurt to plan ahead a little and organize the cables in a manner than makes sense, though Cooler Master provides more than enough zip ties and cable clamps for a few screw-ups.

To finish things off, the power and HDD LEDs shine a bright blue. I've had the pleasure of working with somewhere between 50-100 cases over the past few years and in all honesty the Cosmos 1000 is the best, bar none. We've seen plenty of innovation of the years with the arrivals of removable hard drive racks, integrated expansion port panels, screw-less installation, and various cooling implementations. Yet no one has seemed to pull it all together quite like this. Out of the box, the Cosmos has everything you need to build an extremely cool looking, cool running, quiet PC.

But how much does it cost? Well, it's not cheap. Although the price has dropped since initial release, it's still selling for around $200. Then again, you get what you pay for. As mentioned at the beginning of the review, cases are one of the few components that don't undergo major changes very often. Up until installing my main system into the Cosmos, I was using an Antec case for almost 3 years and would have continued to do so indefinitely. Just like a good mouse and a comfortable keyboard, a solid, well designed case that you won't get tired of staring at will last for years - the same can't be said for that video card you'll replace half a dozen times.

Sure it's big, it's a little heavy, and it's not a budget offering, but it's a case that has to be appreciated. In a word, it's elegant. It's not perfect but it sure comes close. Although aesthetics are an individual preference, the Cosmos 1000 has a very clean design. There's no awfully large intake resembling a UFO or a plastic molding of a poorly made dragon - it simply looks cool. It's also the quietest out-of-the-box case I've ever worked with and certainly the easiest to install components in.

Pros
  • Extremely cool looking
  • Very well designed
  • Solid steel/aluminum hybrid construction
  • Roomy
  • Door can be remounted to open the other way
  • Removable, washable bottom fan filters
  • Strategically placed case control panel
  • Clever mechanism for removing/holding side doors in place
  • Side panels have built-in noise reduction foam (!!)
  • Ideal installation
  • Removable 3.5" bays
  • Screw-less yet secure 5.25" drive mounting
  • Included box of accessories with everything you need and then some
  • Extremely quiet (and cool) operation
  • Reasonably priced
Cons
  • A bit more clearance needed between 5.25" bays and front door (can't use anything with knobs)
Cooler Master did it right with the Cosmos 1000. It's a highly competitive case in the premium market because it has everything you'd want in a chassis - it's sturdy, well designed, runs cool, is quiet, and is a pleasure to work with. For these reasons it receives our Editor's Choice Award. Be sure to check the latest prices next time you're in the market for a new home for your PC. It's worth the cost and it'll last for years to come. Feel free to comment on this review here. Thanks for reading and enjoy the site!
