First thing I did was hook up all four fans to a test 250watt AT power supply to see the show. There's not much I can say; the pictures speak for themselves. While I do wish there was a variety in color (with this particular fan anyway), and perhaps even tinted plastic (like the blue for the blue fan, slight green for green, etc), this will have to do. Blue is by far the most popular and my favorite color, so all is well. While they will light up your case, don't expect to be doing any reading in a room with the lights off and nothing but LED fans to keep you company. They're bright, but not that bright. I would also suggest adding a matching CCFL, as this will produce more brilliance than these LEDs but would complement them pretty well.

The bending of light is due to partial reflection/refraction (conceptual physics) thanks to the spinning blades. And all the better, as more of the fan is lit up and more light is spewed your way. Although not arranged at regular intervals (the third LED would have to be in the thinnest part of the fan frame), it's not something you notice unless you really look into it. And because the light bends and illuminates the entire fan, it's no biggie.

Here they are installed in my new case (review coming soon) with no extra lighting. Yes they do light things up, but not too dramatically. Still, I'd take these over regular fans any day. As for airflow, these aren't the silent PC lover's nightmare in the least bit, whether that be a good thing or a bad. As a matter of fact, they're nearly silent (as mentioned earlier); only a knob twist louder than Vantec's Stealth assortment. But probably the biggest attraction of LED fans is their dual nature. Not only do they function as normal fans, but they add pizzazz to any case and believe me, Joe will be speechless when he sees a pair in even the crappiest of cases. Some get them just for bragging rights.
Pros
- Complete package (adapter and screws)
- Blue tinted translucent frame/blades
- Extra cloth belt around LED strip
- 3 relatively bright LEDs
- Low airflow (great for silent PC goers)
- Looks amazing
- Cheap! only $7 each
Cons
- Low airflow (bad for some, fine for me)
- A little dim
Since their inception, little has changed in the LED fan world. The next step in the evolutionary chain seems to be UV sensitive models with mounted round CCFLs, though these become problematic when orientation is involved. Cyber Cooler's offering has been around for some time and is a tried and true design, one that can be improved upon (just like anything else) but not by much. I really have nothing negative to say about these, as they fit what I'm looking for to the last detail. I'd like them brighter but that's hard to accomplish with so few LEDs.
A slightly more expensive four light version may be a better alternative, but it won't be anything dramatic. Higher output counterparts may be in order for some people, but with the recent urge for many to delve into the silent PC realm, I would definitely consider a few of these. At last but by no means least, the price is right. At $7 each for a complete package it's not a hard decision. I'd like to thank Kool Cases once again for sending over these fans and if interested you can get yours here. Thanks for reading and enjoy the site!
