Brando Neck Strap 2GB USB Flash Drive PDF Print E-mail

Burst speed is on par with Toshiba's "non-performance" offering at 12.9MB/s. Still can't compare to the Corsair drive though.

Surprisingly, the access time of 0.7ms is extremely low and almost as fast as the Corsair drive.

CPU utilization sits nicely at 4% (+/- 2%).

Average read speed is again on par with the Toshiba drive, though slightly faster at 12.7MB/s. Again Corsair leaves them both in the dust.

Average write speed is a disappointment though. At 1.3MB/s, it's only slightly faster than USB1.1 drives. I have no idea why this is. I ran the test multiple times on multiple PCs and got the same results. Everything else adds up but this. So here's what it comes down to. Brando's Neck Strap USB drive is a really unique take on the product concept. It's the smallest drive I've ever seen, you can't even tell it's a flash drive, performance (with the exception of the abysmal write speed) is competitive with mainstream models, and it's extremely durable. I'm thinking I'll cut the strap off mine and carry it with my keys, as the sturdy (but difficult to remove) cap means it'll never get lost. The only downside is the price: for $38 you could get a drive with twice the capacity, but it won't be as cool. And not everyone will want yellow.

Pros
  • Nice package
  • Really neat concept
  • Extremely small
  • Rigid cap (won't come off)
  • Very sturdy design
  • Good performance (except the write speed)
Cons
  • No LED
  • Performance-drive price for mainstream-drive speeds ($38)
  • Low write speed
  • Non-removable strap
  • No other color options
Brando's Neck Strap USB flash drive is definitely a niche product. I could totally see a coach-by-day-computer-tech-by-night wearing one of these. Or simply someone who wants a sturdy, small drive. Personally, it'll will find its way onto my keychain - it has everything needed for portability purposes. If interested, you can get yours here. Feel free to comment on this review here. Thanks for reading and enjoy the site!
