This unusual solution was applied in order to integrate the on/off button on the front, whereas the back side contains the power switch and interface ports. LaCie remained loyal to Mac users, so the primary interface used to connect the device is FireWire 800. Of course, USB 2.0 is supported as well. Although the drive doesn't heat up much, a small fan is also located in the drive case, but it has a “smart” function, so you are not likely to ever hear it. The manufacturer paid much attention to the accompanying software and the rest of the bundle. The thing is that there is not much software that supports these new standards, and the really high-quality one is even more scarce. But here, the buyer receives Roxio's Easy Media Creator 8.2 XE, CyberLink's PowerDVD BD, as well as Roxio's Toast 7.1.1 Titanium. We must also mention that if you possess a Blu-ray device and appropriate software, it doesn't necessarily mean that you can immediately watch the new format films. Your graphics card must also support HDCP, and LaCie suggests a card no weaker than GeForce 7600GT or Radeon X1600. Inside the d2 Blu-ray drive, one can find a Panasonic SW-5582 Blu-ray writer.
With 20 years of experience building power supplies for the consumer and industry, it's no wonder PC Power & Cooling is THE preferred power supply. I personally have two S75Q models in two of my computer systems and have no issues whatsoever. So I really know first hand over an extended test period how excellent the Silencer model really is. The PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750W Quad CrossFire Edition Power Supply (S75CF) is really the same as the previous model (S75Q), except it has two 8pin (6+2) PCIE leads and its red. This model is also ATI CrossFire certified, so it’s perfect for an ATI CrossFire Video Card setup. This Power Supply fits the bill and ATI color theme! Watch the video to find out more and check out the bloopers at the end.
This PSU has been reliably solid during our tests but what about the noise? I have to admit that this is one of the most silent powersupplies I have encountered or reviewed. I thought that this might be a bit more loud than the others due to its high output wattage but that was no the case. I found that the modular cables are extremely well done and clip on very well to the connectors which gives stability and safety. I liked the bag also that the cables came in, it makes it easy to sort the cables out and store them for future use. Overall I am very happy with this product and I can honestly say that we do recommend this product for the market as it even offers new 8 pin PCI-E power cables for future videocards and also superb stability.
However, now comes the hard part. What services are unnecessary? Some are very necessary, so you can't just go around arbitrarily turning off services. The next section describes what each of these services are, with a description of that they do, and a recommendation whether to Disable it.
The stands that come with most LCD displays do more than a sufficient job in allowing the range of adjustment necessary for the best and most comfortable viewing experience. However, all LCD displays are not created equal. Quality and/or flexibility are usually the first casualties when a company is trying to save a buck or two on their products, particularly the lower-tier ones. Some LCD displays have stands that permit only basic tilting and swiveling, but no height adjustment. Some stands are poorly or cheaply constructed, making whatever range of adjustment they provide anywhere from a nuisance to practically life-threatening for the display itself (a problem not limited to entry-level, budget models).
The good thing about GeForce 7025 is that it has two independent video controllers inside, providing two video outputs on-board. Abit AN-M2 comes with two video outputs: one standard VGA output and one DVI output, allowing you to connect two video monitors to your computer at the same time without needing to install an add-on video card. This is simply great, especially if you think that the primary target of this motherboard is digital home PCs.
The UJ-857 is made by Mashita, which is owned by Panasonic. It is a little slimmer than typical slimline opticals that are used in iBooks and Powerbooks, and is only compatible with the Macbook and Macbook Pro notebooks. After doing a little research on this product, I found a host of user complaints on this drive via Apple's technical support boards. I included this in the review only because there were an extremely high amount of user complaints on this drive. However, this will not influence us in any way during our review. I just wanted to advise our readers of potential issues that might arise with this optical drive.
Now on to the lower right of the board. This is were the PCI slots are, comprised of three PCI slots, one PCIe X16 and two smaller PCIe X1 slots. Hiding below the PCI slots is the hardly used Floppy connector. On the far right is a dual IEEE header with markings for a front connection like the ones built into a case, and a rear panel connection for the included USB+1394 PCI bracket. Next to the IEEE headers is the Hardware Monitoring Controller Winbond W83627EHG-A, which can handle these functions: Multi-I/O, UART, infrared, parallel port, keyboard controller, game port, MIDI port, and general purpose I/O ports. Hiding amongst the PCI slots is the chip for the audio, and below the slots are headers for the front panel audio, FDD and game.
While great in theory, most notebook coolers suffer a from a variety of issues. The common notebook cooler is either plastic or aluminum with a couple of fans strategically placed to either blow cool air onto your notebook's heat generating components, or suck hot air away. The first major issue with notebook coolers is space, as these coolers are usually the same size as the notebook (although lighter) making them difficult to store as well as a pain to work with. The second issue is performance.....not so much the performance of the cooler, but how the cooler affects the performance of the notebook. Most notebook cooling solutions are powered via a USB port on the notebook. While this isn't really an issue when your notebook is used as a desktop replacement, the power draw while traveling or away from a power outlet can seriously cut into your notebook's battery life.
The Biostar Sigma-Gate GeForce 8600GTS videocard is based on nVidia's reference design. Biostar equip the card with custom dual slot cooling solution, leaving the 256MB of GDDR3 memory naked. The latter is not much of an issue, even when highly overclocked the memory is only luke warm.
