Performance Fan Comparison on XP-90 PDF Print E-mail

  • Manufacturer: Delta
  • Model: EFB0812LE
  • Dimensions: 80 x 80 x 38mm
  • Rated airflow: 37.01CFM
  • RPM: 3200
  • Rated noise: 33dBA
  • Power: 1.8watts
In this case, bigger is better. The taller 80x38mm EFB0812LE spins slightly faster and is a bit louder, but pumps out an additional 10CFM. It is on par with almost every other 80mm fan, except it still falls into the "quiet low speed" category. The EFB series also has a narrower hub diameter compared to the previous FFB series, so more airflow is generated and the "dead spot" (area below the fan motor where there's minimal airflow) is reduced. Also, Delta is known for underestimating their ratings (unlike other manufacturers who claim airflow rates that no one else can seem to reproduce), so keep that in mind when looking at the specs. If you want a quiet 80mm fan with respectable airflow, this is it.

  • Manufacturer: Panaflo
  • Model: FBA09A12U
  • Dimensions: 92 x 92 x 25mm
  • Rated airflow: 68.8CFM
  • RPM: 3450
  • Rated noise: 43dBA
  • Power: 5.16watts
Since the XP-90 is meant for 92mm fans, it's only fair that at least half of our comparison deals with these larger blowers. The first one is the 92mm version of the "ultra high speed" 80mm Panaflo. Once again it's nowhere near "ultra" speeds (or airflow), but it can be considered a high speed fan. You'll want a 3 to 4-pin adapter though since the 5.16watt power consumption is a bit much for motherboard headers. I actually overlooked this and tested it plugged into my motherboard; fortunately nothing bad happened but it's not recommended.

  • Manufacturer: Delta
  • Model: EFB0912L
  • Dimensions: 92 x 92 x 25mm
  • Rated airflow: 40.6CFM
  • RPM: 2300
  • Rated noise: 29.5dBA
  • Power: 1.2watts
As with the Panaflo comparison, this is the 92mm version of the 80mm low speed fan. It's at about the same noise level but pumps out over 10 extra CFM. If you're going to be using an XP-90 and hate noise but need the airflow (and size is not an issue), this is the best pick from our comparison.

  • Manufacturer: Delta
  • Model: EFB0912HHE
  • Dimensions: 92 x 92 x 38mm
  • Rated airflow: 79.81CFM
  • RPM: 4000
  • Rated noise: 46dBA
  • Power: 5.04watts
The 92x38mm high speed Delta fan is rated at about twice the airflow of the low speed version. It's definitely a high speed blower, but although rated at 3dBA higher than the "ultra high speed" Panaflo, it has a lower pitch so it doesn't sound as bad. Overall, it's a pretty tolerable fan. It also has an extra 10CFM of airflow thanks to the added height. You'll notice once again that it uses the new EFB series hub. Finally, you'll need a 3 to 4-pin adapter for this model since it uses 5.04watts.
