Thanks to Aerocool for the product sample.
Aerocool is a new name to Mikhailtech. Recently we took a peak at their Turbine fan series and were pleased with the innovation involved. However the company has been around for some time; they were one of the first to introduce heatpipe coolers, though their models weren't very popular. Today we'll be taking a look at arguably the most "bling" heatsink currently on the market: the gold-plated all-copper GT-1000.

Presentation is key for any sort of performance/high-end product and Aerocool doesn't disappoint. The heatsink and accessories come shrink wrapped in the retail box you see above; it even has a carrying handle. Everything is snug inside thanks to custom cut foam pieces.

The kit includes the heatsink, a very unique looking fan, some company thermal paste (we used Arctic Silver 5 in our testing), a very detailed pictorial installation foldout, and all the necessary pieces for mounting the cooler on every current platform: K7, K8, P4 (478), and LGA775. It's nice to see Aerocool go the extra mile by including several platform installations, as it grants the GT-1000 much more versatility.

The included fan is a 3-pin 92 x 25mm model. It features semi-transparent blades that become completely opaque/colored at a certain angle (similar to the coating on sunglasses). When spinning, this fan gives off a nice subtle shine which complements the rest of the heatsink nicely. It's rated at 1800RPM, 37CFM, 2.4W, and 20.62 dBA. As you can tell, this is a low speed fan and although it's not completely silent (the 20 dBA rating might be slightly inflated in real-world applications), it is very quiet.

As you may have guessed, the entire heatsink is gold plated. This is more of a cosmetic feature, but it doesn't hurt performance either. There are a total of 36 thin copper fins with 3 heatpipes coming up from the thick copper base on each side. This is a typical setup for heatpipe-style coolers. The little black mini-heatsink at the bottom offers no real cooling benefit; as we'll see shortly it has more to do with installation. You'll also find an aluminum shroud surrounding the cooler with mounting holes for 80mm and 92mm fans on both sides. This allows you to place fans on both sides of the GT-1000, though it's not really necessary. Finally, there's also an aluminum carrying handle up top so you don't get your greasy fingers all over that shiny gold (like I did).
