The NexStar Hard Drive Dock is packaged in a cellophane wrapped black box. The box shows a picture of the unit along with all pertinent information including how to insert and eject a hard drive from the dock. Upon opening the box, the Hard Drive Dock itself is presented with black border around it. A striking first impression for sure!


My favorite part of the box:


The top of the NexStar Hard Drive dock has a pair of flaps that open when a drive is inserted. One flap opens when a 2.5” drive is inserted and both open when a 3.5” drive is inserted.


The NexStar Hard Drive Dock has its power button located in the front of the unit, utilizing a blue LED surrounding it for a power indicator. The switch is an on/off switch, not momentary.


There is another blue LED below the power indicator which acts as the activity light. In my testing, this light is a little dim, but it is visible.

As expected, the USB, eSATA, and power connects are located on the back of the unit. There are also four non-slip rubber feet on the bottom of the unit, which keep it in place at all times.


The manual shows how to install hard drives as well as how to connect the unit to a computer. It really is self explanatory if you’ve ever plugged in anything to a computer before.
