Long gone are the days of a single 5.25” floppy bay in a computer for storage, most any modern computer comes with 80-120GB of hard drive space, an amount hard to imagine in a desktop ten years ago. In the age of 720p movie downloads and media center recordings however, even this isn’t enough for modern users. Additionally, with so many homes having multiple computers, it’s even harder to keep data where it needs to be. This is where a centralized storage location becomes important, and the QNAP TS-409 Pro is a business class NAS that is more than capable of satisfying almost any home user or small business need.
Writing this review was an interesting experience, the NAS has so many features that it took several different attempts to include all of the information necessary. Finally I decided the only way to make sure I included everything that the unit could do was to walk through the administration pages and explain each piece as I went along. I then followed this with a short description of using the device as a normal NAS. I would like to thank Qnap for providing the device, and being patient with this long review process.
