Introduction

Many of us are not happy by the noise that our computers are making. I am one of those people, and I know how annoying fans can become especially when you want to work in a quiet environment. After hearing about Noctua, I thought, well this could be just another company that states that their fans are totally silent, but I was wrong. I got a sample of Noctua's NF-P12 120mm fan and I was shocked by how quiet computers can become. Noctua’s fans use high-grade components as well as extremely strict quality control in order to maintain the highest possible quality standard.

In this review I will be looking at the Noctua NF-P12 fan. Their older award winning NF-S12 fan had some minor problems. Noctua decided to make another fan which would fix those problems and mainly be used for CPU coolers, Water-cooling radiators, power supplies, storage solutions, cases with very restrictive fan grills and filters, and much more. The NF-S12 fan is better for different uses, and that's why the NF-P12 fan was made. The NF-P12 was designed primarily for very restrictive and tight fin heat sinks that demand superior pressure and airflow performance. The NF-P12 is the latest fan that Noctua has to offer at the moment. The “P” in its name is supposed to stand for the “Power, Performance and Pressure” the fan creates that the other fans could not offer. So let’s take a look at what this fan has to offer after a little brief explanation about Noctua.

About the Company

Noctua aims at establishing a new level of quality and performance "Designed in Austria" through paying attention to the users' needs in a market burdened with all kinds of frills and furbelows and providing sound-optimized premium components, which serve their purpose in a smart, precise and reliable manner.
Noctua arises from a cooperation between the Austrian Rascom Computerdistribution Ges.m.b.H and the Taiwanese Kolink International Corporation and entertains a development partnership with the Austrian Institute of Heat Transmission and Fan Technology (Österreichisches Institut für Wärmeübertragung und Ventilatorentechnik, ÖIWV). These connections form the key to the achievement of our goal: The partnership with the ÖIWV permits the application of scientific measurement instrumentation, methods of calculation and simulation technology in the R&D process. Rascom's long, customer-oriented experience in developing and distributing sound-optimized high-end products ensures a clear focus on the users' needs. The use of Kolink's advanced manufacturing technology and ultra-modern production plants allows us to efficiently implement our technical edge and provide solutions of the highest standard in quality and performance. These three companies work together in harmony to make Noctua's products.

What does Noctua mean?

The little owl, Athene noctua, is the symbol of the Greek goddess Athene, who represents wisdom, science and strategy. She has a marked preference for the most clever among the Greek heroes, like Odysseus, who endure their adventures by the use of savvy consideration instead of mere force. Until today, the owl symbolized intelligence and prudence, its manlike face depicting attentiveness and communication. Noctua follows suit of the owl's calm and accurate observation in the dark, its soundless flight as well as the effective, economical use of its powers and precise attack.
