GMC R2 Toast Mid-tower
Author: Brent Earls Date: January 17, 2008 Manufacturer: GMC Provider: GMC External Tour » Page 1: Introduction and packaging ![]() Every case manufacturer is looking for a way to differentiate themselves in recent years. Making your case quiet, cool, windowed, well lit, it’s all to stand out in the crowd. One thing that isn’t often messed with however, is the optical drive placement. 99% of cases have optical drives mounted in the exact same way; GMC decided this is how they would differentiate themselves though, and have found an ingenious way of mounting it. ![]() The R2 came in a seemingly simple box that highlights the front of the case, its main attraction. My case was shipped from Korea, so I wouldn’t expect quite as much tape on a US shipment. While on that topic, this case is currently not available in the United States, so if you’re interested in it, get in touch with them. Inside the box were two simple pieces of formed Styrofoam on the ends holding it in place, with a plastic bag over the case. I was worried when I saw how small the packaging was around the case, but it made it over here from Korea undamaged and in perfect shape, so I imagine it would make it around the US easily. ![]() The included case goodies; as stated before, this case isn’t for sale in America yet, so the instructions are still in Korean. The normal bag of screws appears (enough to populate every hole the case has, which is a nice touch) as well as a small buzzer for the motherboard header. Above that we see a small row of stickers, which I couldn’t figure out until I looked at the instructions. As you can see in the bottom left instruction, these are used to hold a CD in place on a drive that doesn’t have the small teeth for holding disks in at vertical angles. I would question the drive’s longevity when mounted vertically if it wasn’t designed for it, but I’m slightly paranoid about moving parts. External Tour » |
