Introduction

As computers become more and more integrated with our daily lives and serve increasingly as our entertainment systems, portable entertainment is important. With many people owning laptops, this is a very realizable goal. Many local TV stations are broadcasting in HD in addition to their regular standard definition programming. In order to view these digital signals, you’ll need an HD tuner such as the Autumn Wave OnAir GT.

AutumnWave

The company was established in 2005 to provide consumer solutions for the movement to digital TV and in particular, HDTV. US-based customer support shows AutumnWave’s commitment to their customers. The company headquarters is located in Carlisle, PA.

OnAir GT USB HDTV Tuner

The OnAir GT USB HDTV Tuner is designed for use with any USB equipped Windows XP or 2000 system (no Mac support, unfortunately), but it has a couple of features that make it particularly convenient for a laptop user. First and foremost, it is completely powered from the same USB jack it uses to transfer video to your computer. This means no worrying about carrying an AC to DC adaptor, or trying to find a socket to plug it into. Secondly, the included, detachable antenna is of the telescoping variety, and can be pivoted at its base to store quickly. Lastly, AutumnWave provides a carrying case to protect the OnAir GT, which we will see later.

Features:

A nice thing about the OnAir GT is that it’s not only an HDTV tuner, but also can receive analog TV signals.

The ability to pause live TV and other DVR features makes this an excellent tuner for an HTPC setup. Since the removable antenna allows the OnAir GT to be fitted with different antenna, including a regular cable TV line, this product is extremely versatile. Oh, and did I mention that there is no monthly fee for the programs list? This information is downloaded over the air for digital signals if using the antenna, or even from analog stations from the cable TV line.

AutumnWave lists the following specs for the OnAir GT:
