Author: Peter Kapas Editor: Aditya Gune Date: August 17, 2008 Manufacturer: ASUS Provider: ASUS Intel’s P45 Express Chipset Overview, Chipset Features » Page 1: Introduction, About ASUS Introduction ![]() ASUS has been around for several years now, making some of the most breathtaking gaming motherboard available on the market. ASUS is known for their excellent quality build and performance in their motherboards from the past years, but is this still the case? Intel released their X38 motherboard about a year ago, and it still seems to be one of the high leading motherboards on the market, along with the new P45 and the X48 motherboards. Having the latest, greatest and the most power efficient hardware is one of the main foci for computer enthusiasts at the moment. If it is Gaming, Video Editing, Photo Editing, Designing and Animating, Word Processing or even just surfing the web, the new P45 will change the way you look at the latest motherboards. This review is about the ASUS P5Q Deluxe motherboard, which includes Intel’s new P45 Express Chipset. This motherboard was very tempting for several reasons, including the EPU – 6 Engine. The EPU Engine lowers overall power usage when the system is in an idle or low usage state. These configurations can be changed manually through the EPU software that comes on the Driver CD, which will be discussed in detail later in this review. In addition, the True 16 phase power is supposed to increase power efficiency while maintaining lower temperatures, lower noise, and less power loss compared to the older 8 or 6 phase power. The third interesting aspect of this motherboard is Asus’ new onboard Linux-based operating system “Express Gate” which will allow you to boot up online in 5 seconds. Let’s take a look at how well this motherboard will perform compared to our older X38 motherboard with DDR3 support.
